Online commissioning

Ontario permits commissioners to administer oaths and take declarations remotely by videoconference. A number of common document types can be completed this way without attending in person.

Documents commonly eligible for online commissioning include:

Affidavits — sworn written statements for legal proceedings, immigration, or government filings
Statutory declarations — formal declarations of fact required by law or by an institution
Government forms requiring a commissioner's signature
Travel consent letters — sworn consent for a minor to travel with one parent or a third party
General sworn statements not requiring original documents

Not every document can be completed remotely. If your document must be used in a specific foreign jurisdiction or requires an original seal, contact us before booking to confirm the correct path.

In-person appointments

Some services require attendance at our office. This includes certified true copies, any document where the original must be examined, and situations where the receiving institution requires an original seal and signature.

Certified true copies — we must examine the original; photocopies cannot be certified
Affidavits and declarations where the receiving party requires in-person execution
Oaths and affirmations administered in person
Jurats — certification that a document was signed under oath before the notary
Documents for use abroad where the destination country or institution requires original notarization

What to bring — in-person appointments

Every in-person appointment requires the following. Appointments cannot proceed without originals and acceptable ID.

Original documents — we must see originals; photocopies cannot be certified
Two pieces of valid government-issued photo ID (passport, driver's licence, or equivalent)
A completed draft if your matter is an affidavit or statutory declaration — we do not draft these at the appointment
Any reference number, file number, or institution-specific requirements if submitting to a government body or foreign institution
